Kid-friendly vacation and Las Vegas are not typically thought of together, but this past Summer we did just that.

Where we stayed:

We started our vacation at the Marriott Grand Chateau hotel. This is one of their vacation club properties, but I was able to make a reservation through the Marriott site.

Grand Chateau was the perfect location for our family. It was a two-minute walk to the strip, but it felt like less. We had a view of the strip, but there was little traffic in front of the hotel. I also liked that there were no casinos in the lobby. Our room was clean and comfortable, what we expected from a Marriott property.

One of my girls was celebrating her birthday and the staff made sure to tell her happy birthday when they saw her. She also got special treats at the cafe. I would definitely stay here again.

After a few nights we moved to MGM Grand to get a feel for a Vegas strip hotel. The MGM Grand is a great hotel and our room was pretty. As the name suggests it is grand. Multiple places to eat, catch a show and gamble. If we were traveling as a couple I would have listed this first. But for our family the Marriott felt better. At MGM Grand it was very busy (as you’d expect) and it lacked the comfort we had experienced the night before.

Another thing to note. If you go when it’s VERY HOT, it may be hard to find an unoccupied spot in the pool. We finally found one, but there were no covered lounge chairs available. This is usually not a big deal, but when it’s 110 degrees laying on a chair without shade is not a good option.

What we did:

The infamous Vegas strip is mostly family friendly during the day. We watched the fountains dance at The Bellagio.

We strolled through the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden. Beautiful flowers and air conditioning?! Yes.

We did a day trip to the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon with the tour company Grand Canyon Destinations.

If you’re planning this trip look online for discounts. I found a good deal via Facebook for their south rim bus tour.

On the way we stopped on Route 66.

We visited the M&M and Hershey’s stores/experiences. We are a chocolate-loving family so both of these were pure joy. M&M also has a cute 4D movie experience.

And we had to take photos at the infamous Las Vegas sign.

If your kids are tall enough, do The Big Apple Coaster in the New York New York hotel. My youngest was disappointed that she didn’t quite meet the height requirement. It’s a must on our next trip.

What we ate:

One of our favorite meals was Nacho Daddy. Check out these dishes!

nachos

chicken chimichanga

fajita nacho

vegetarian burrito

Summary:

Las Vegas is more kid-friendly than I thought it would be and we truly enjoyed ourselves. The next time we’ll enjoy more of the shows and choose a cooler month, :-).
